5. When to use these phrases

Public warning signs in Korea use short words. You may see them in subway stations, apartment buildings, parks, government offices, hospitals, workplaces, and construction areas. A small sign can tell you not to enter, not to take photos, to wear protective equipment, to use an emergency exit, to report a problem, or to avoid a dangerous place. This lesson teaches the Korean words that help foreign residents understand public warning signs quickly.

Start With Warning, Danger, and Prohibited

The first words to notice are 경고, 위험, 주의, and 금지. 경고 means warning. 위험 means danger. 주의 means caution or attention. 금지 means prohibited. If a sign combines 금지 with another word, it usually means you should not do that action.

This lesson is for language learning only. If a sign is connected to safety, emergency evacuation, restricted access, fines, or a public office rule, follow the sign and ask staff if you are unsure.
