When something breaks in a Korean apartment, the first conversation is often with the management office. You may need to explain the problem, send a photo, ask when a technician can visit, and check whether there is a repair cost. This lesson teaches the Korean words that help foreign residents make a clear apartment repair request.
Start With the Repair Request
The most useful phrase is 수리 요청, meaning repair request. If you are speaking simply, you can say 수리 요청하고 싶어요, meaning “I would like to request a repair.” The next important word is 고장. It describes something that is broken or not working. For apartment life, you should also recognize 관리사무소, the management office that receives many repair and building messages.
A good repair request usually includes three details: what is broken, where it is, and whether you can send a photo. For example, mention the bathroom, ceiling, sink, or power outlet. If water is leaking, say 물이 새요. If the management office asks for evidence, send a 사진.
