Why safety signs matter

Korean construction site safety signs are short, direct, and often more important than a long conversation. A worker may see 위험, 출입 금지, or 낙하물 주의 before hearing any full sentence. Read the sign before you move

Before you enter a work area, scan for three things: what is prohibited, what protection is required, and where the safe route is. Prohibition words often include 금지. Required equipment often ends with 착용. Warning labels often combine a hazard with 주의 or 위험. This pattern lets you understand many new signs even when you do not know every word.

How Korean warning labels are built

A Korean warning label is usually built from a noun plus an action or caution word. 낙하물 means falling object and 주의 means caution, so 낙하물 주의 means watch for falling objects. 출입 means entry and 금지 means forbidden, so 출입 금지 means no entry. Keep these building blocks in your notebook and review them after work.

What supervisors may say

Supervisors may also turn the sign into a spoken instruction: 안전모 착용하세요, 저쪽으로 우회하세요, or 이 구역은 들어가면 안 돼요. You do not need perfect grammar to respond safely. Use short confirmation phrases, point to the sign, and ask where to go.

How to ask again safely

• 다시 말해 주세요. Please say that again.
• 어디로 가면 돼요? Where should I go?
